HOW IS YOUR COMPANY’S REPUTATION?
Recently, we were helping a well-known company find key Salesforce candidates. I knew their name and assumed this would be a great place to work since I instantly recognized and admired them from afar. What I didn’t expect was that the internal churn of employees at the company would completely affect any and all recruiting efforts.
LET ME EXPLAIN
Everyone knows that a corporation’s culture is extremely important. It will tell you a lot about how a company values their customers and employees. However, the amount of employee turnover at a company tells a tale to candidates that there is either stability or churn which always impacts the perception about a candidate’s future at a company. Consider a company that has employees in your targeted position with years of longevity versus a company that has churns employees every year, which would be more interesting to you?
For this client, we conducted an exhaustive search for talent and leveraged our extensive network to yield some gems — potentially perfectly suited for the opportunity. However, these people knew of the constant turnover and figured the potential for long-term employment was devastatingly low. Some candidates dropped out simply because of the bad reputation alone.
TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
Over the years, lots of online tools have emerged to gauge employee satisfaction which can quickly convey whether a company is a good place to work or not. For instance, a quick check at Glassdoor can provide a 50,000 foot perspective into the employees views of the company. It should all be taken with a grain of sand, and I recommend throwing out the worst and best reviews–while focusing on the middle. Either way, crucial insights can easily be gathered before making a life changing employment decision. And if you’re on the hiring side, this could open up your eyes to the possibility of bad PR permeating online which should be addressed.
It’s true that the word on the street could help or hurt your ability to hire top talent–it certainly hurt the company above.
